David Castillo Gallery is pleased to present our summer group show, I used to Believe... curated by Melissa Diaz. The show includes the work of emerging artists recalling the ideas, imagery, and artistic approaches of adolescence.
Using a wide variety of media and subject matter, each artist approaches the realm of childhood nostalgia from varying perspectives. Works in the exhibition evoke the playful and observant nature of children as they interpret the world around them; and create a lens that reflects the memories of childhood.
Artists in the show are from Miami, New York, Texas, and California. Each artist brings a unique reflection on the innocence of youth. The artists include Miami-based artists Luis Alonzo-Barkigia, Rakel Bernie, Ernesto Burgos, Alvaro Ilizarbe, Jay Oré, Kevin Tarasuk, and Kelly Wilbur. Also included are BJ Barbee, Adam Shecter, Chris Duncan, Kelly Lynn Jones, and Candace Briceño.
After receiving her degree in Art History, Melissa Diaz has worked as an independent curator, developing shows at numerous venues throughout S. Florida. |
